This music festival was such a huge success last year that people assume its been around for ages. This is only our second coming, says Nikhil Chinapa about Sunburn, one of Asias biggest club festival held in Goa later this month. People also think its a foreign brand. Its not. Its our very own party, which brings together some of the worlds best DJs, belting out their brands of music for three whole days, says Nikhil.
This years theme is Electric Circus.
There are four music stages this year, as against three last December. Theres also a chilled out, mid afternoon bar stage and an after-party. There will be circus and water elements as well, along with fire jugglers, a dry spa and, of course, lots of electrifying music, he says.
And this time around music lovers can look forward to gigs from popular international DJs like Eddie Halliwell, OOdb, Defected in the House, Growling Mad Scientists, Norman Doray, Simon Dunmore and a host of Indian DJs as well, like Pearl, Vachan and Ajit. Its great exposure for our desi DJs. They bring in as much to the table as the international DJs, says Rohit Barker, who is hosting the event alongside Nikhil.
We did have a few budget constraints, but the artistes just wanted to be a part of the festival and cut down on their fee, points out Nikhil, adding that the success of the event last year made a huge impact on clubbing in India. It was a matter of pride to youngsters that DJs like Carl Cox played in our country. More youngsters aspired to become DJs now. More importantly, it was a very clean event a drug-free party minus any undue incidents. This is only going to get bigger, he says.
